Do MUD\WTR® products contain caffeine?

Yes, our :rise Cocoa blend contains a fraction of the caffeine found in coffee. On average, a cup of coffee contains 90 mg of caffeine. According to the EFSA, that can vary significantly, depending on the portion sizes. Meanwhile, :rise Cocoa has around 35 mg of caffeine per serving.

Where are your products made?

Whilst our ingredients are sourced globally, our :rise Cocoa is made in the USA.

Where are your mushrooms from?

Our mushrooms are grown in various countries throughout the year, including the USA (Reishi, Lion's Mane), Scotland (Lion's Mane), India (Reishi, Lion's Mane), Japan (Reishi).

Why does your US formula have cacao and the UK have cocoa?

Not to be stereotypical American, but you can blame our governments. The food regulation authorities in both countries have rules around what foods are and what they can be called. In the US, the ingredient we use can be classified and sold as "cacao" based on our FDA regulations. However, in the UK, for the same exact ingredient, the regulations identify it as "cocoa", which is unfortunate because cocoa has many negative, and often times unfair, connotations. Across the world, the difference between cacao and cocoa is pretty muddied, in some languages they are even the same word. There is no set line between when cacao becomes cocoa, which leads to different regulations applying to different countries. Cacao is typically heat treated to ensure it is safe to eat, yet some still call this raw, but there is no specific time or temperature where cacao transitions to cocoa, leading to even more confusion. Throw the words "chocolate" and "liquor" in the mix, and we're all spiraling down a delicious but super confusing nomenclature whirlpool.

We use the same exact ingredient with the same credentials from the same suppliers for both US and UK products. The cacao/cocoa ingredient is not what makes the two formulas different -- the differences lie in the mushrooms because, once again, there are discrepancies between what each government allows and doesn't allow in foods, but the mushroom story is a story for another day.

What IS your cocoa/cacao? Cocoa usually has other added stuff like sugar and chemicals, right?

- Non-alkalized or "dutched/European style", meaning it is not washed with chemicals to alter the acidity.

- There are zero ingredients added to our cacao/cocoa. No sugars, no processing aids, no flavors, no preservatives. Just single ingredient cacao/cocoa. Our pledge from the beginning is transparency--everything on the label is everything in the product, no hidden anything.

- It is standardized to 20-22% cacao fat.

- It is not "raw" as it has been heated to ensure any pathogenic bacteria that could harm us have been killed.

- It is sourced from the Dominican Republic.

- It is vegan and non-GMO (as well as certified USDA organic in the US)

- Like all of our ingredients, we have a robust supplier approval program as well as require testing on all incoming material to ensure quality, chemical, physical and safety criteria are met every time it comes into our facility.
